Brazil named defense minister Jacques Wagner 

Jacques Wagner, born in Rio de Janeiro in a family of Jewish immigrants from Poland and former governor of the Brazilian state of Bahia, was appointed defense minister in the federal government.
President Dilma Rousseff appointed Wagner, 63, and 12 new cabinet ministers after his reelection in October.
Wagner, a former activist of the socialist Zionist movement Habonim Dror, was elected governor in 2007. He had previously served as labor minister under former
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.Besides Wagner, Floriano Pesaro, a leader of the Jewish community in Sao Paulo, was elected to the federal parliament in October. Member of the Brazilian Social Democratic Party, Pesaro in September published a book entitled "My path to Judaism."
As a councilor in the city council of the city of Sao Paulo, Pesaro was one of the initiators of the legislation that led to the incorporation of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day as an official commemorative dates of the city.
